With the CoolX platform there are number of analogue interfaces that the user can make use of to monitor and control the performance of the power supply. Video – Excelsys – Hi-Pot testing


A grey area often exists in users minds in relation to production testing requirements v’s type testing on power supplies. In many cases, this can lead to unnecessary damage to power supplies, especially when applying a hazardous hi-pot test across the isolation barrier. Type testing remits the removal of components prior to such testing, which prevent will prevent the damage, and this video discusses the limitations for in-circuit testing across the isolation barrier on a switch mode power supply. It also details how to overcome these limitations and the permitted guidelines for safety type testing. In taking the user through a number of different test options it provides details on how to safely carry out a type test hi-pot procedure on a finished unit.

This video takes the user through such requirements and discusses this in the context of off the shelf platforms that can be used in such applications.

With the expansion of commercial off the shelf power supplies being used in harsher environments, there is a need for such supplies to meet the stringent shock and vibration requirements when operating under such conditions. At Excelsys we have addressed this directly. This video looks at the specific design enhancements of Excelsys platforms that make them suitable for use in highly rugged environments with additional mechanical stresses. It takes the user through the design approaches adopted and tested that allow our platforms to be used in harsh operating conditions, with a specific focus on such platforms.

Video – Excelsys – Wide Trim


As we engage with our customer we learn more about the challenges and requirement they face with developing architectures As part of this ethnography research, we have learned that more of our customers needs a wider voltage trim capability on many power platforms. This need has been addressed with the recent design and addition to the PowerMod product ranges, which allow the user to trim down to 1V. This video focuses on the new range of PowerMods which allow the user to trim between 1 and 58V on a single platform PowerMod. It discusses the application advantages to such capabilities on these new design platforms.

Video – Excelsys – Inductive & Reactive Loads


When driving inductive and reactive loads a challenge faced by many designers is how to protect the power supply when, for example, a back EMF is generated. In many cases this invokes adding external circuits such s series diodes ptr crow bar circuits. With the recent design and release of the XgR & XgT’s, Excelsys has addressed this particular issue. This video focuses on the new platforms which allow the user to drive reactive and in particular inductive loads without the need for external protection devices. This ability provides the user with a cost effective and performance enhanced solution without compromise for the end user.

Video – Xgen Power Supply Thermal Shut Down Protection


The Xgen Power Supply has many safety features designs on board. This video demonstrates to the user how the thermal shut down protection feature of the Xgen functions.

In the video we artificially simulate an over temperature event by heating a thermistor with a hot air knife. We show the user how the part shuts down , and how the open collector output can provide the user with 10mS advance notice of the shut down occurring.

Video – Xgen Power Supply Short Circuit Protection


The Xgen Power Supply has many safety features designs on board. This feature focuses on how the PowerMods will protect themselves in the event of an external short circuit being placed across the output.

In the video we discuss in detail the protection mode commonly referred to as hicc-up mode. We show the viewer through use of an oscilloscope, the timing sequence of the output stage turning itself on and off. This ensures that the unit can remain in this mode indefinitely without any concern for damage to our power supply or the customer’s application.

Video – Xgen Power Supply Current Limit Protection


The Xgen Power Supply has many safety features designs on board. This video demonstrates to the user how the current limit protection on the individual PowerMods functions.

In this video we use electronic loads to purposely overload the PowerMod and we show the shut down feature and how the unit protects itself , and the customer load from being damaged.

The XF range of Xgen power supplies are designed to meet the demands of harsh operating environments. Ruggedised to withstand extremes in shock and vibration and is certified to Mil-STD 810G, Integrity Test for Shock and Vibration.

Ideal for use in applications subject to extremes in temperature, the XF family will deliver up to 1000W over a wide temperature range from -55 to 70ºC and is conformal coated as standard, ensuring additional protection from water and dust.

This video takes the viewer through the highlights of the XF design, and will compare and contrast the design with the standard Xgen platform.

The Xgen series of user configurable power supplies offer system designers greatest flexibility, highest efficiency and highest reliability for their application.This video provides a technical overview of the Xgen platform. It provides the user with an insight into the engineering make up of the design.

It discusses the design from both a mechanical and electrical over view, and talks the user through a very high level schematic. It shows the viewer how the entire package is assembled to provide  market leading performance ,on a modular based, configurable power supply that can easily be assembled to meet all of your power needs.
