Case Study: Ultra-Sensitive Instrumentation Equipment finds solution with Excelsys Low Noise Power Supply
One of the world’s leading analytical instrumentation companies desired a platform approach for multiple new products they were developing. These new advanced products included high-performance scientific instruments and high-value analytical and diagnostic equipment. Critical to the development of these systems was the requirement for a power supply that was small, light and with low acoustic noise while being capable of providing a range of discrete output voltages. The power supply also needed to have the ability to support high voltage rails combined with logic and analog low voltage power.
The UX4 from the UltiMod Series of power supplies was the ideal solution for their requirements. The UX4 can deliver 600W and can be populated with up to 4 powerMods in a slimline 1U package – a crucial requirement for the end customer. The UX4 is designed for highest efficiencies and power density and carries dual safety certification – EN60950 for Industrial Applications – and most importantly for the end user, EN60601-1 3rd Edition for Medical Applications. The applications team at Excelsys were able to use the UX4 combined with LDO regulators and passive filtering to give the customer the turnkey approach to proof of concept and test that they needed.
Excelsys’ modular approach replaced five linear power supplies as the UltiMods universal input eliminated tap switching and extensive point to point wiring. Most importantly, with the UX4 we were able to exceed the customers requirements on weight, size, acoustic noise and vibrations. The applications support provided to the customer, combined with the extensive knowledge of the product and industry requirements, proved vital in securing the design win.
